In the second Test between India and England, India managed to score 336/6 in 93 overs by STUMPS. Yashasvi Jaiswal's unbeaten 179 played a crucial role in achieving this score.

This is Yashasvi's second Test century and his career-best performance. Yashasvi, who is just 22 years old, played with composure and class on Day 1 of the 2nd Test against England in Visakhapatnam on Friday, February 02. He seemed to be the only batter in the Indian top 6 who learned from India's sloppy defeat in the series opener in Hyderabad. He made the best use of a good start and hit a daddy hundred.

Yashasvi Jaiswal's steely resolve to not throw it away as he did on 80 in the first innings was evident as he mixed caution with aggression wonderfully well to get his second 150-plus score in Test cricket. Yashasvi, playing only in his 6th Test, knew when to attack and respect the opposition bowlers, hitting 17 boundaries and 5 sixes.

Rohit confirmed during the toss that Patidar will make his debut in place of the injured KL Rahul. India will also play Kuldeep Yadav instead of the all-rounder Washington Sundar, replacing Ravindra Jadeja. Meanwhile, pacer Mohammed Siraj has been rested and Mukesh Kumar will take his place.

Patidar was given his maiden Test cap just minutes before the toss, thus putting an end to the speculation about whether he or Sarfaraz Khan would be playing.

Shubman Gill missed another opportunity to convert a start into a substantial knock, despite showing more intent to counter the spin threat well. The young batter has been struggling at No. 3 and has been under criticism from critics for his place in the side. However, he was undone by James Anderson, who became the oldest bowler to bowl in India in a Test match. Anderson's class was too good for the struggling Gill as he poked at one and was caught by wicketkeeper Ben Foakes on a batting-friendly pitch.

The debutant slow left-arm orthodox bowler took 7 wickets in the second innings and bundled out the hosts for 202 runs.

Another debutant, Ollie Pope, must get all the credit for his brilliant 196 in the second innings. The English batter helped his team achieve 420, which India eventually failed to beat.

Conditions in Vizag will be different. While Hyderabad offered spin from the word go, Vizag should provide more opportunities for batters in the initial phase of the game.

Rehan Ahmed bowled the final over of Day 1, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and R Ashwin batting. Ashwin hit a boundary over wide long-on. India finished the day at 336/6 runs in 93 overs.

Shoaib Bashir continued to bowl, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and R Ashwin still batting. India scored 332/6 runs in 92 overs.

Axar Patel played a lovely flick shot through mid-wicket for a boundary off Root's slightly low delivery.

Yashasvi Jaiswal reached his 150 with a beautiful cover drive off an overpitched delivery from Root. The dressing room gave him a standing ovation as he had been the backbone of the Indian innings.

The ball spun back onto Rajat Patidar's stumps. Rehan Ahmed is delighted and why wouldn't he be? After waiting to bowl for so long, he has hit the perfect lines straight away. And this one just bounced a lot more than Patidar expected. It hit his gloves and rolled back onto his stumps The debutant was looking good but now he has to take the long walk back for 32. Every time India threatened to take the game away from England, they managed to pick up a wicket.

A change in attack for England. Joe Root for his 11th over. Still no sign of Rehan Ahmed. Patidar drives to deep cover for a single. Jaiswal slashes hard, gets an edge, and picks a single. Patidar picks a single with a clip to wicket

Hartley to continue. His first delivery is straying down the leg and Jaiswal gets a feather on it to send it down to the fence. Another step down from Jaiswal but his slog takes a thick outside edge and just beats the third man, by two runs.

Rajat Patidar will now face another debutant, Shoaib Bashir. Confusion at the pitch gets Rajat into trouble, but he survives a run-out. Bashir tosses it up, Yashasvi's eyes light up as he drives it for 4! Yashasvi takes a single to end the over.

Shreyas starts with an on-drive that goes for a 4! But, his innings do not last long. An under-edge goes to the keeper. Tom Hartley gets his first wicket. Shreyas goes for 27.

Though local boy K.S. Bharat admits it will be an ‘overwhelming’ feeling to represent the country at home his ground in Visakhapatnam, he is focused on keeping his emotions aside and playing yet another game for India, which takes on England in the second Test at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium here from Friday.
