On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, will be conferred upon veteran BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani.

"Shri LK Advani is one of the most respected statesmen of our times, and his contribution to the development of India is monumental. He began his life working at the grassroots and went on to serve the nation as our Deputy Prime Minister," the Prime Minister stated.

"He distinguished himself as our Home Minister and I&B Minister as well. His parliamentary interventions have always been exemplary, full of rich insights," the Prime Minister continued.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister announced that Shri LK Advani Ji would be conferred the Bharat Ratna. "I am very happy to share this news, and I also spoke to him personally to congratulate him on being conferred this honor," he added.

During an address in Odisha, it was mentioned that the Bharat Ratna awarded to Advani is a recognition of the ideology of 'nation first' and a tribute to the hard work of millions of BJP workers and leaders across India. This award is an acknowledgment of the party's principles and the struggle of its workers. The BJP, which began as a two-MP party, has now become the world's largest party.

Advani, as the BJP Chief in 1989, initiated the Mandir pledge, and his 'Rath Yatra' in 1990 from Somnath in Gujarat to Ayodhya in UP to build the Ram temple, changed the course of Indian politics. The Ram Mandir resolution bore fruit, and the BJP's seat tally under Advani skyrocketed from two to 86. In 1989, Rajiv Gandhi lost power, and the National Front formed the Government under Vishwanath Pratap Singh with BJP's support.

The party's position moved up to 121 seats in 1992 and 161 in 1996, making the 1996 elections a watershed moment in Indian democracy. For the first time since independence, the Congress was removed from its pre-eminent position, and the BJP became the single largest party in the Lok Sabha.

Lal Krishna Advani, who was born in Karachi, Pakistan on November 8, 1927, served as the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party for the longest period since its inception in 1980. He had a parliamentary career of nearly three decades and held positions such as Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in the cabinet of Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1999-2004).

Recently, Kavitha congratulated Lal Krishna Advani on being picked for the country's highest civilian honor, Bharat Ratna. She said that it is good that the Ram Temple finally saw the light of day and marked the fulfillment of BJP's agenda.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed his respect for LK Advani and said that he made a place for himself in politics. He stated that the Samajwadi Party always had and will have great respect for him.

The award symbolizes the recipient's exceptional service to the country and is considered one of the highest honors in India.
